Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal asked the central government to clear its claim of around Rs.4,000-cr against its share of the electricity generated by three Bhakra Beas Management Board hydropower projects.

Chief Minister in a statement in the assembly said the review petition filed by Punjab and Haryana governments in the apex court, challenging its Sept 27, 2011 order accepting the claim of Himachal Pradesh, was dismissed March 29. he added that

“Through this august house, I want to make a plea to the central government to settle the claim (of 7.19 percent share in three projects) awarded by the Supreme Court in favour of Himachal Pradesh at the earliest. In the wake of the apex court latest judgment, I request the union government to record its acceptance of the Himachal Pradesh share in the Supreme Court so that the entire amount of the claim could be paid,”

After the apex court’s judgment last year, the state assessed its arrears to be around Rs.3,963 crore, due to it from November 1966 under the Punjab Reorganisation Act.
