The spokesman of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department said that keeping in view the complaints of certain consumers that sweet shopkeepers weigh the carton boxes in the weight of sweets at the time of selling sweets, the Inspectors Weights and Measures of Himachal Pradesh have been directed to keep a strict vigilance on such type of practices in their respective jurisdiction.
He said that due to this illegal practice consumers are cheated and get the less amount of sweets for the price of sweets paid by them. He said that this practice is ab-initio violation of provisions of the Legal Metrology Act. He cautioned sweet sellers against this illegal practice and asked them to adhere to the provisions of the Act by selling the sweets in net weight. He said that offenders would be prosecuted in consumer’s interest.
