Legal Advisor to Lokayukta S.K. Chaudhary inaugurated a three- day-long training programme on ‘Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Excise Act’ for officers (ETOs and AETOs) of Excise and Taxation Department organized by H.P. Judicial Academy.
S.K. Chaudhary said that the training on NDPS and Excise Act would be beneficial to the participants as this department is responsible for accumulating revenue to the Government. He said that it was necessary that such trainings were organized to empower these officers who have been conferred with the powers to submit cases under the NDPS Act as well as Excise Act. He said that these officers who discharge quasi-judicial functions should be well versed with the provisions of Law so that justice could be imparted to the people coming before them.
Earlier, S.L. Sharma, Director of Judicial Academy welcomed the Legal Advisor to Lokayukta and all other guests and participants officers and gave brief introduction about the training. He said that the object of the training programme was to have a mechanism which ensures that all the loopholes resulting in failure of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and excise cases were plugged and to bring better cooperation and coordination for effective implementation of these laws by all the agencies as per their assigned duties and functions within the framework of these Acts.
Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner Manmohan Sharma, and Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner (Legal), Excise & Taxation Department Vinod Behl, were also present on the occasion.
