Chief Minister Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal released the Special Cover to mark the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Project Deepak of Border Roads Organisation at historic Gaiety Theatre. Addressing all ranks and files of the organisastion, Chief Minister congratulated them on successful completion of 50 years of its service towards the nation and celebrating Golden Jubilee to mark the occasion. He said that Project Deepak had rendered most valuable service in creation of strong communication network on border areas of the State and had constructed 1,880 kms., long road in Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Punjab and Rajasthan since its inception besides constructing 50 major bridges. He said that it was due to the efficient service of Project Deepak that Manali-Leh road was opened for vehicular traffic in year 1999 at the time when foreign infiltrators had captured important posts in Kargil area of Laddakh and approach from Srinagar side had been blocked to transport man and material to the Kargil in Laddakh region. He said that entire military movement had been diverted to the Manali-Leh highway and the Border Roads Organisation had efficiently accommodated the heavy movement of vehicular traffic.
