Aiming to reduce traffic congestion in Shimla town, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh laid foundation stone of the Multi-storey Parking and Commercial complex near Tuti Kandi, Shimla.
This 64.58 crore parking project would be completed in two years and capable of parking more than 700 vehicles. To facilitate tourists parking would be connected with a rope-way till Jodha Niwas.
This parking project would be implemented with financial assistance from the Asian development bank along with share of Government of Himachal Pradesh. The implementing agency would be HP Tourism Development Board and the mega complex would be constructed by M/S A.S. Enterprise-Sam India Built Well Pvt Ltd, Chandigarh.
The Chief Minister revealed the tourism department was preparing a 20 year perspective master plan in which parking for the wayside amenities are the major components. He said that the Government has kept a budget provision of Rs 15 crore this year for parking facilities and for supporting 50 percent of the project cost.
However, snubbed by the Tourism Department, Shimla MC Mayor Sanjay Chauhan had written to the Chief Minister and complaint against the department for not coordinating with MC regarding Foundation Stone Laying of this project.
Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Nand Lal, Vice-Chairman HPTDC Harish Janartha, Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) V.C. Pharka, Commissioner Tourism-Mission Director, Mohan Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner, Dinesh Malhotra, amongst other were present on the occasion.
