Solan: As technology-driven careers reshape employment opportunities, Bahra University at Waknaghat in Solan district is expanding its academic focus towards emerging disciplines such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing, while simultaneously strengthening programmes in healthcare and other specialised fields.
The university has developed an academic portfolio covering engineering, management, law, hospitality, pharmaceutical sciences, physiotherapy and basic sciences. The institution has also increasingly focused on courses designed to respond to changing industry requirements.
A key component of this strategy is the university’s Alpha School, which offers industry-oriented specialisations in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML), Data Science, Business Analytics, Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing.
The objective is to bridge the gap between classroom education and the skills demanded by employers. Students are provided opportunities for practical learning through live projects, internships, hackathons, industry interactions and professional certifications.
The approach reflects the growing importance of technology skills across sectors, with AI, data analytics, cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity becoming increasingly relevant not only to technology companies but also to banking, healthcare, manufacturing and other industries.
Expanding beyond conventional degrees
Bahra University is also widening its academic offerings in specialised areas of healthcare and forensic sciences. Programmes in fields such as Embryology, Stem Cell Technology, Forensic Science and Bachelor of Physiotherapy are part of its efforts to create career opportunities in emerging professional domains.
The university has positioned these programmes under its broader focus on translational health sciences, with the aim of connecting academic learning with practical applications in healthcare, diagnostics, medical research and forensic investigation.
Industry exposure at the centre
Employability remains a major focus of the university’s education model. According to figures published by the institution, its placement network includes more than 1,175 recruiters, while over 8,100 job offers have been generated for students. The university lists its highest package at ₹1.25 crore.
Along with recruitment drives, the institution has been conducting career counselling, placement preparation programmes, industry-oriented workshops and mock interviews to help students develop professional skills.
The university also recently organised a placement readiness boot camp aimed at strengthening students’ communication, aptitude, interview and workplace skills.
Scholarships to support students
Alongside its focus on employability and technology, Bahra University has also sought to make higher education more accessible through scholarships. The university says it has awarded scholarships worth more than ₹25 crore across disciplines.
Its scholarship initiatives include support for meritorious students, sportspersons, single girl children, defence personnel’s wards and students associated with NCC, Scouts and NSS, among other categories.
The university has also developed an increasingly diverse student community. It currently highlights students from more than 35 countries, along with hostel facilities for over 2,500 students and more than 120 laboratories.
The combination of professional programmes, technology-focused education, international exposure and industry engagement is aimed at creating a learning environment that extends beyond conventional classroom teaching.
As artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies continue to transform the nature of employment, institutions of higher education face growing pressure to ensure that graduates possess practical and adaptable skills.
