Solan: Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil launched Himachal’s first of its kind City Livelihood Centre in Solan town. This centre will provide 20 different services on fixed charges to citizens through a Call Centre set up in the Municipal Committee Solan.

Dr. Shandil said that this centre would help the citizens in solving their day to day problems. In the beginning electricians, plumbers, driver, beauticians etc. will be made available and more services would be added in a phased manner.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister said that the City Livelihood Centre will provide better employment and self-employment avenues to skilled unemployed youth. The centre will prove beneficial especially for elder people as they will be able to seek much needed services at their door steps, he added. Centre would also provide Wheel Chairs in the near future.

He said that door to door garbage collection started in 8 wards of the town was a step in right direction. He exhorted the people to make this campaign successful as it would help in making Solan town clean along with environment protection. He directed the officials to develop parks in the town as was being done at Ganj Bazar and directed the police to keep a vigil on these parks.

Chairman of Solan Municipal Council, Pawan Gupta assured that MC will provide all possible help in making the project a success.

Deputy Commissioner Solan Rakesh Kanwar said the project was part of the district administrations plan to make Solan the safest, citizen friendly and clean city. Massive cleanliness drive will be undertaken in coming months especially on the National Highway so that the visitors coming to the State feel happy. He said that it was a pilot project and every effort would be made to make it a success. He welcomed suggestions from the citizens to improve the services and urged them to keep on giving the feedback.

Deputy Commissioner said that Citizen Service Centre had been made functional by the MC Solan in collaboration with the ITI Solan with the guidance and support of the district administration. The MC Solan thus became the first MC in the State to start these services. He said that citizens could call on the phone number 220745 from 10 am to 5 pm to get services of trained professionals on fixed charges.

Kanwar revealed that trained professionals from twenty different fields had been registered by the MC Solan in the first phase. In the second phase medical attendants, part-time and full time nursing care professionals and other service providers will be added.
