The Executive Council (EC) of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has decided to postpone the Student Central Association (SCA) elections for one year following the recent clashes between students’ outfits.

The decision was taken unanimously by the EC in its emergency meeting headed by Vice Chancellor, Prof AND Bajpai. The EC took the decision not to hold the elections to student bodies as per the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee as it strongly felt that under the present circumstances, it was not possible to hold independently and impartially elections.

To ensure student representation, the EC has decided to nominate office-bearers to the SCA based on academic excellence and performance in sports, culture and other fields. The EC has also constituted a committee to prepare report on nomination and that will submit its report with the entire schedule to the Vice-Chancellor by September 3.

The EC’s decision comes against the demand of the student bodies, who wanted the student polls at the earliest and likely to have serious repercussions from the student wings.
