BJP candidate for Sujanpur Assembly By-election Narender Thakur has won the election with the slender margin of 538 votes. He has defeated Congress candidate Anita Kumari Rana, wife of Rajender Rana, who has vacated the seat to contest Lok Sabha Election from Hamirpur Parliamentary Constituency on Congress ticket.

Total 46,213 electorates exercised their right of franchise in the by-election and out of that Narender Thakur got 22993 votes, whereas opponent Anita Kumari Rana could secure 22455 votes. BSP candidate Parveen Thakur got meager 387, however independent candidate Subhash Chand polled 352 votes. 351 electorates used None of the Above (NOTA) option, whereas 121 votes were rejected.

Narender Thakur, son of Himachal Pradesh BJP founder member Jagdev Chand, had unsuccessfully contested assembly and parliamentary elections in past on BJP and Congress ticket. He had contested Lok Sabha poll against Anurag Thakur in 2009 and Assembly poll against Prem Kumar Dhumal in 2012.
