Himachal Pradesh BJP party has thrown its weight after Senior BJP leader Jai Ram Thakur for the Mandi parliamentary by-election who is a very senior political campaigner from BJP and was state party president and cabinet minister of rural development and Panchayati Raj in previous Prem Kumar Dhumal government.

Earlier state BJP’s 14-member election committee has shortlisted the names of Jai Ram Thakur, Ajay Rana and Ram Swarup Sharma for by-election. Though, earlier Jai Ram Thakur had shown reluctance for election, but party high-command wanted winning candidate for the election.

Jai Ram Thakur is legislature from Seraj assembly segment of Mandi district and he had won his first election in the year of 1998, after that he has won all the election consequently.

Main opponent, Indian National Congress hasn’t declared its candidate; however it seems likely that Pratibha Singh, wife of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh can get party high-command nod for the by-poll. She had earlier represented Mandi parliamentary seat in 14th Lok Sabha.

Mandi parliamentary seat fall vacant in January 2013, after Virbhadra Singh become Chief Minister of the state.
