The one-day nationwide bandh called by trade unions against government’s “anti-labour” policies today get mixed response in Himachal Pradesh. Major banks, insurance companies, BSNL and some commercial establishments remained closed in the state. However, the road transport and other essential services like water and power supply remained unaffected. Some commercial establishments were also seen open.
Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) state president Jagat Ram claimed that 30,000 Anganwadi workers also joined the strike. Meanwhile, bank employees held a protest rally near Scandal point, while transport workers held a meeting at Old Bus Stand here. A group of striking employees held a rally on Mall Road and demanded implementation of labour and industrial laws.
Protest by workers also reported from Ponta-Sahib, Bilaspur, Chamba, Una, Baddi and Dharamsala.
