The Food and Civil Supplies Department directed the Shimla Municipal Corporation to confiscate the issued ration cards that the corporation had got printed from a private printer in violation of the laid-down norms.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ramesh Dhawala directed the department staff to ask the local MC to destroy all the 1,000 ration cards, including those already issued to people, which it had got published on its own. While some of the ration cards have been issued to people, the rest are lying unused with the local body.

Minister added that the MC could not printed ration cards on its own as Rules 14 and 15 of the Specified Article Control Order do not permit them to do so. Minister further added that printing ration card is a sole duty of department.
