Fresh Snowfall has ended the long dry spell in the State. Various parts of the State have received snowfall today and have got a pearly white facade. But, even lower areas like Chamba, Nurpur, Jassur, Nagrota Surian and Karnarthu and Utrala area of Baijnath etc. received snowfall, which was a total surprise for people residing in these areas. This has been attributed to global warming, which has caused a change in temperature.
The Deputy Commissioner, Chamba has advised people of the district to restrict their movement due to heavy and wide-spread snowfall today. He said that all parts of the district were experiencing heavy snowfall since morning so it was necessary to restrict their movement as a precautionary measure. The vehicular traffic on Pathankot- Chamba National Highway has been disrupted due to heavy snowfall at Banikhet. The tribal belt of Pangi, in district Chamba, hass also been experiencing heavy snowfall and it has been advised to stay indoors due to fear of glacial movements.
According to all the information received from Keylong, the mighty Rohtang Pass (13050 ft) has been closed due to heavy snowfall and the tribal areas of district Lahaul and Spiti have been cut off from rest of the world. Reports reaching from Mandi district, Jhanjeli and Chuhar valley report that the area has been covered with a white blanket of snow. The upper areas of district Shimla have been receiving heavy snowfall and traffic for Rampur has been diverted via Dhami.
