The BJP has criticized the Congress leaders for targeting the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), which has uncovered the coal blocks allotment scam, and said such unwarranted attacks would only undermine the credibility and status of a constitutional body.
Spokesperson of the party Ganesh Dutt said that the Congress, which stood fully exposed due to the report of the CAG, was trying to avoid the public anger by raising fingers on the competency of the important instrument of accountability in the democratic set up.
Earlier Congress leader Manish Tiwari’s had remarked on the CAG that it has become accustomed to affixing zeroes. In its report, CAG had held Prime Minister Manmohan Singh “directly responsible” for the Rs 1.86 lakh crore losses in allocation of coal blocks. All major opposition parties have demanded PM’s resignation over the issue.
