Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh presented State Budget for the year 2013-14 in the house today. To discourage the drug addicts Chief Minister has proposed to increase the VAT on cigarette, cigar etc. In the budget VAT has been increased from 18% to 36% on cigarette and on bidis it is increased from 11% to 22%. With this decision, the rates of cigarette, cigar and bidis will be increased almost double. Govt is also hoping to get some revenue from it.
