Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee finally suspended the murder accused Doon MLA, Ram Kumar Chaudhary, from the party and also removed him from the post of party general secretary.

New Congress president Sukhvinder Singh, while speaking to the media personals said “This is my first decision after assuming charge,” he added that “Party has decided to adopt zero tolerance policy in cases of crime against women and so we have suspended Ram Kumar from party and also removed him as general secretary,”

A first time MLA from Doon assembly segment Ram Kumar Chuadhary, who is a son of Ex MLA and senior Congress leader Lajja Ram, is under Haryana police custody for his alleged connection in Jyoti murder case. He even tried to evade police and absconded for about fifty days. He however surrendered at Panchkula Court on 25th December 2012. After that he is under custody of Haryana police.

Haryana police claimed that during interrogation Chuadhary admitted to his involvement in murder of Jyoti Rani. As told to the police, Ram Kumar Chaudhary came in contact with Jyoti in June 2010 and developed intimate relations with her. Since then both had been in constant contact with each other, both in person and over the phone. As a result of this relationship, Jyoti got pregnant and her abortion was carried out in Jindal Nursing Home, Sec 20, Chandigarh, where Ram Kumar Choudhary accompanied her in capacity of her husband.

Police said, Ram Kumar Chuadhary stated that he deposited huge amount of money to the bank accounts of Jyoti. However, from last few months especially after her pregnancy and abortion Jyoti was asking for more and more of his time and threatened to expose him in public. The police said that as the pressure from Jyoti was increasing, Ram Kumar discussed it with his associates and decided to finish her after the elections.

As per the disclosure statement of Ram Kumar, police has already recovered the vehicle used in the offence and the mobile phone of Jyoti which was thrown by Ram Kumar after the offence.

Now with the latest development, it seems that Doon assembly segment can go for bye-election as by law it is mandatory for newly elected MLA to take oath within 60 days of his election otherwise his election could be cancelled by the assembly.
