A proposed hydroelectric project at Renuka in Sirmaur district which also aims to provide drinking water to Delhi received a setback as Himachal Pradesh Government raising objections to the plan citing environmental concerns.

The ambitious Rs 3,600 crore Renuka Dam project is facing opposition from locals and environmental concerns. Chief Secretary Sudripta Roy said at a symposium on ‘Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development in Hydro sector’ organised by Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN)

The project developers must satisfy the local people and no projects should be taken up where local people and stakeholders are opposed to it
