Assembly elections are just 5-6 months away but political upheavals have already started taking big shape in Chopal area. Adding more the political turmoil is an announcement from former Congress legislator from Chopal, Yoginder Chand, who has announced his candidature. In a meeting with his supporters at Chopal, he said that he will demand a ticket from Congress party. If denied, he will contest as an independent candidate. Yoginder Chand had won Chopal assembly elections three times in the past: in 1985 as a Congress candidate, in 1993 as an Independent and in 1998 as a Congress nominee. In 2003 he lost election to Independent candidate, Subhash Manglate and after that he didn’t contest any election as such.
