The Himachal Pradesh cabinet gave its nod to the state department of rural development and panchayati raj to begin Socio-Economic and Caste Census in two phases. In the first phase census will be conducted from October 12 to November 17 in tribal areas and from November 14 to 19 in other parts of the state. The caste census will also identify Below Poverty Line (BPL) families after door-to-door enumeration is undertaken.
Principal Secretary (Rural Development and Panchayati Raj) S K V S Negi said that the drive will be conducted with the help of trained enumerators, who will carry devices to feed data relating to the family’s income, caste and religion.
