In a dramatic development of sandalwood smuggling case in Spiti police on Wednesday arrested Saklang Dorjey Indian athlete in Beijing Asiad. Presently he was serving in the department of youth services and sports as coordinator. Few months back Spiti police had busted and confiscated a truck carrying 12 ton of sandalwood in Sumdo border in Spiti, which was being smuggled to China through Lepcha border just 26 kms away. Earlier in this case, an assistant commandant of ITBP and one inspector had been suspended owing their involvement. From the very beginning Saklang Dorjey was under suspicion and he was under constant vigil of the police. It was suspected that Saklang arranged transport and other paraphernalia to the alleged smugglers who were in constant touch with him. SP Lahoul and Spiti Mr. Rana has confirmed the arrest and said that legal formalities are being completed to produce the culprits before the court.
