Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission has directed the closure of Sanjauli, Shimla-based Institute of Business Management College immediately.
The Regulatory Commission, on a complaint of students for not awarding degree by the College in spite of appearing in the examination and paying the examination fee, has sought compliance of the orders within 10 days.
Complainants stated that they were doing BBA under Distance Education Programme from Institute of Business Management – a branch of Lovely Professional University Jalandhar, and in spite of appearing in the examination and paying the examination fee, they hadn’t received their degree and when communicated with the University they found that the institute hadn’t forwarded fees to the University.
In another complaint – complainants stated that they were enrolled in MBA (2009-11) course – affiliated to Maharishi Dayanand University Rohtak, but hadn’t received their degree from the University.
The Regulatory Commission found that the institute “extorting handsome amount from the students undergone/undergoing Distance Education Programme at par to a regular student of a College. Moreover, the publicity of the Institute has been given as “IBM College” to attract students for regular admission whereas it is running Distance Education Programme.”
Commission underlined that institute has “defeated the purpose of education by entering into commercialization of education in the state of Himachal Pradesh by issuing misleading advertising under the heading of “IBM College” and nowhere mentioning “Distance Education Programme” attracting general public /students for making admission on regular basis thereby presented an imaginary and illusory picture for making a successful career to the innocent students admitted in IBM College.”
The Directorate of Higher Education has already stated that there is no College in the name of “IBM” at Swami Complex, Opp. Meena bazar, Sanjauli, Shimla. Institute had also admitted of running distance education programme of Maharishi Dayanand University Haryana (a State University) from the year 2009 with last passed out batch 2013.
The Commission ruled that “Institute is neither a College nor a lawful Study Centre of Maharishi Dayanand University Rohtak to run its Distance Education Programme as all the State Universities have been debarred by the UGC”.
The Regulatory Commission found it a serious matter and ordered to bring to the notice of the District Administration.
Earlier, H.P. Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission, has ordered to close down Heritage Institute of Hotel and Tourism Sanjauli, Shimla, for violating UGC norms of distance education.
