To facilitate senior citizens and disabled persons, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has decided to start taxi services on sealed and restricted roads of Shimla city.

Transport minister G S Bali, while interacting with media, after flagging off the Flying Squad vehicle of HRTC at Shimla, revealed that the taxis will start running again from next month.

GS Bali revealed that the HRTC would provide monthly pass for Rs 300 for senior citizens and physically challenged people, while others would be charged Rs 20 per seat.

The seats would be first available for senior citizens and others would be allowed subject to the availability of seats.

Earlier, the taxi services was stopped after the HP High Court had taken a serious view of HRTC taxis being run like transport services in sealed and restricted areas.

While replying on the question over the bus fare, Bali denied reducing it. Transport Minister clarified that prices pf diesel had been increased by Rs 10 per litre in the recent past and if there will be drastic reduction in its prices, the HRTC would consider reducing its fares.
