Hamirpur two time legislature and BJP leader Urmil Thakur has quit the party to join Congress alongwith her son.

Urmil Thakur, who is daughter-in-law of former BJP stalwart Jagdev Chand, was upset as BJP had denied ticket to her for Sujanpur Assembly bypoll and had instead fielded her brother-in-law Narender Thakur, who had just left Congress after denied ticket by Congress.

Thakur announced her decision to join the Congress at a rally at Lambloo near Hamirpur in the presence of chief minister Virbhadra Singh and vowed to work for success for Rajinder Singh Rana, party candidate from Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency.

Attacking BJP and Prem Kumar Dhumal, Thakur said that BJP was no more a party of discipline.

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh welcomed Urmila Thakur to congress party and said that she will get full respect within the party cadre. Addressing public meeting at Lambaloo in Hamirpur district today, Virbhadra Singh said that he had cordial relations with late BJP veteran leader Jagdev Chand, though our ideology was different.

Praising Jagdev Chand, Chief Minister said that he was a mature politician and it was because of Jagdev Chand that Prem Kumar Dhumal came in active politics and now it was the same Prem Kumar Dhumal who played politics of opportunism and sidelined the family members of Jagdev Chand for his ulterior motive.
