To ensure lead over Congress candidate Rajender Rana, once a close associate, BJP candidate from the Hamirpur constituency Anurag Thakur holding series of public meeting in the segment and trying to woo electorates in his favour.

Banking on the NaMo mania, Thakur promised to create a separate development policy for Himalayan states after coming to power at the Centre. Thakur, in a series of public meetings in the Gagret Assembly segment, stated that the Himachal Pradesh had a difficult terrain as compared to the plains and, therefore, more funds were required to keep the pace of development at par with the other states.

He said the BJP had promised the formation of a Himalayan regiment in the Indian Army, where the youth of the Himalayan states would have an opportunity to serve the country.

Anurag also tried to encashed the reported differences between local Congress legislature and Virbhadra Singh led state government and accused Congress Govt for not giving Gagret its rightful share.
