Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Mandi segment Pratibha Singh urged the Union Defence Minister A.K Antony to personally intervene and take appropriate action for resolving the pending formalities of setting up proposed Steel Processing Unit of Steel Authority of India Limited at Kandori in District Kangra.

Pratibha Singh, in her written communication to the Union Defence Minister, informed Union Minister that the construction work of the unit was in advance stage of commissioning, but was suspended for some security reasons given by Field Ordinance Depot, Kandori.

Mandi parliamentarian urged the Union Minister to give special relaxation in this matter so that this unit could be established in time bound manner. She said that this project would provide direct and indirect employment opportunities to the un-employed youth besides giving to boost industrial development in the State. Economy of the area will also get boost with the plant, MP added.

Foundation stone of Steel Authority of India Steel Processing Plant at Kandori was laid in Feb. 2009 by then Union Minister of Chemicals, Fertilizers and Steels Ram Vilas Paswan with the estimated cost of construction of Rs. 105 crore.
