Horticulture Minister Narinder Bragta said that the Central Government has agreed, in principle, to set up two Centres of Excellence of Horticulture in Himachal Pradesh, one in lower hills and one in upper hills in the State so as to benefit the fruit growers. Rs. five crore each to be spent on each Centre for strengthening the horticultural activities thereby benefiting the fruit growers. This follows his meeting with Dr. Gorakh Singh Horticulture Commissioner, Government of India and other senior officers at New Delhi today.
Minister said that following his meeting with senior officers, the Central Government has also agreed to release Rs. 20 crore to Himachal Pradesh under Horticulture Technology Mission for various horticultural activities including horticulture and agriculture implements. This would give big boost to horticultural activities in the State and strengthen the economy of the farmers to a great extent. Horticulture Minister apprised the Union Government that State Government at its own was also taking various steps to strengthen the economy of the farmers in the State.
