Many might surely not know that Shimla was once a major football hub. Even, India’s oldest football tournament Durand Cup started at this beautiful hill city in 1888 and an All India Football Federation was also founded here 75 years ago, which is now looking for its revival. With the glorious past, the Himachal Pradesh Football Association is trying hard spreading the game across the state. To make it popular and giving opportunity to highlight the talent of youths in football, Himachal Pradesh Football Association (HPFA) is organizing four major Football tournaments in the state.

It was decided in HPFA’s meeting at Peterhalf Hotel Shimla, wherein most of its member participated and agreed to organize under-14 Championship at Nahan, under-20 at Kullu, Club Championship at Shimla and Senior State tournament at Chamba district. Exact dates for the tournaments aren’t available as of now but they will start anytime from 15th August and will conclude before 30th September.

HPFA Sr. Vice President Prithvi Vikram Sen said that association is serious about reviving football in the state and to make future team, association is concentrating on under-14 tournament as promising kids can do well in the coming time too. He added that to find new and fresh talent in state, HPFA will hold 10 days camps in every district and will provide international level coach to assess and train them.
