A Spokesman of the State Government said that State Government will make available standard universal cartons to fruit growers from this year for providing them better packing facility. Spokesman added that a Committee had been set up to examine the use of standard universal cartons in place of telescopic cartons which were being used presently.

He said that the Committee had decided to provide sufficient quantity of standard universal cartons and a meeting was held with the carton manufacturers to achieve this objective. He said that after testing the quality of cartons it had been found that for extra large, extra small and ‘Pittu’ grade apple 500x305x315 mm medium and for small grade 500x305x330 mm and for large grade 500x305x335 mm size cartons were appropriate.

He said that State Government would use these cartons on pilot basis for the first time. These would be made available to the fruit growers through HPMC, HIMFED and private carton manufacturers. He urged the fruit growers to pack only 20 kg of fruit in these cartons.
