A Spokesman of the Health Department said here today that Medical Council of India had accorded permission to fill up 18 more MD/MS seats in Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda raising the total number of seats to 49. He said that admission to 49 MD/MS seats would be made in the college during 2012-13, one in Biochemistry, five Anaesthesia, five General Surgery, three Ortho, three Gynae, , three DVL, five Paediatrics, three Community Medicine, one Pathology, five General Medicine, three Microbiology, three Pharmacology, three Radiology, two ENT, two Ophthalmology, and two in eye departments.

He said that present Government had given fillip to medical education in order to facilitate the students of the State. He said that total number of MBBS seats in 2007 was 115 whereas the same had been enhanced to total 200 in 2011-12. He further said that the MD/MS seats had been enhanced to 139 in 2012 in the State. He said that the number of PG seats in IGMC had been increased from 39 to 81 due to the constant efforts of the Government and added that permission to fill up nine more MD/MS seats had been received and the total number of seats increased to 90 now.

He said that due to the sincere efforts of the State Government, permission to increase the number of seats in Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda had been sought and constant increase witnessed since 2008. He said that permanent recognition to 50 MBBS seats in the college was secured by the Government in 2010 and the number of seats increased to 100 in 2011. He further said that persistent efforts were made to make the College a Post Graduate Institute and five MD/MS seats were filled up in 2010-11. He said that 24 seats were further increased and admissions for 29 seats were made in 2011-12.
