Two properties of former Deputy Prime Minister late Devi Lal situated in Kullu – a hotel in Manali and a farmhouse built on 12 bigha land in Jarad village – have been ordered to vest with government for violation of section 118 of HP Land Reforms and Tenancy Act 1972. Deputy Commissioner BM Nanta discloses it.
After the death of Devi Lal, the properties are said to be owned by his grandson Ajay Chautala. Matter of the benami land deal was detected in 1977 and case was pending in the court of deputy commissioner.
In his investigation, Nanta found both the properties under benami ownership of two persons who are resident of Himachal. A person from Una, identified as Yashpal, was running the hotel Regent Holiday Home after signing memorandum of understanding with Chautala. The farmhouse of Jarad village is owned by a person, identified as Harikrishan, of Katrain village in Kullu.
