Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal launches district level Van Mahotsava by planting ‘Arjun’ sapling at Bhagetu village of Aghar Forest Range of Hamirpur district today. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister said that 2.61 lakh plants would be planted in 288 hectares of land this year in Hamirpur district. He said that Bamboo plants would be planted in 90 hectares areas under National Bamboo Mission in the district. He said that 9.28 lakh plants of various species had been prepared in 22 nurseries of Hamirpur Forest Division which were useful for land erosion purposes.

Prof. Dhumal said that massive plantation would be carried out in the State in which mainly medicinal plants would be planted. He said that 25 check dams were also constructed under River Valley Project. He also directed the Forest Officers to lay more stress on survival percentage of the planted saplings so that green cover of the State could be further enhanced. Education Minister I.D. Dhiman, and MLA Urmil Thakur and other prominent persons of the district planted saplings on the occasion.

Earlier Chief Minister launched Van Mahotsav at Annadale. It was organised by the Manas Kalyan Multipurpose Society. The members of the Society and school children also planted saplings on the occasion.
