The Himachal Pradesh government defends its decision to allow setting up of private universities in the state and said that with the limited resources Himachal needs private players to provide quality education and related infrastructure for the education.

Reacting to growing opposition from the HP opposition party against “indiscriminate” opening of private universities in the state, Education Minister I. D Dhiman told Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has himself said that in the next 10 years we will need 1,000 more varsities and 45,000 colleges. Dhiman added that State has 12 private universities and still many students are not getting admission. Apart from the education these private universities have generated 5,876 jobs in the state.
