Himachal Pradesh will get its first Hydro-Engineering College at Bilaspur. Chief Minister said that Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will lay the foundation-stone of the college that will open as a joint venture of National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVNL). However, there is no clear date on when the college will actually begin to function. It is learned that the college will include five courses in hydro engineering and capacity of student will be about 300.

In the recent time, there is a boom in the hydel power sector and necessity of skilled hydro power engineers has forced government to establish the special college. College course contents will be designed by a team of professionals so that competent and skilled hydro power engineers will be produced to take up the exploitation of the hydro potential for power generation.
