Nahan: Senior BJP leader and Nahan legislature Dr Rajiv Bindal ended his three-day fast. He was protesting against the Congress led state government’s alleged ignorance of his segment in developmental activities in the past one-and-half-year.
Addressing supporters after breaking fast, Dr Bindal accused the state government for deliberately ignoring segments represented by the BJP. He said that condition of roads and water supply was most neglected by the Govt and causing problems to the natives.
BJP leader, while blaming the irrational distribution of development funds in the state, stated that there were areas where all facilities existed, yet they were allocated more funds under NABARD, while in Nahan, despite a dire requirement of 13 bridges, a detailed project report had yet to be made.
He alleged that there was a lack of coordination between electricity and irrigation and public health (IPH) departments for water supply in Nahan, but the state government has not been intentionally improving it. He also lambasted at the administration and accused officials for adding vows to the common people.
Quickly commenting on the Dr Rajiv Bindal fast, Congress senior leaders from Sirmour district G.R. Musafir, Vice Chairman, State Planning Board and Harsh Wardhan Chauhan, Chairman, Resource Mobilization and Employment Generation Committee have termed it as a political drama to conceal his failures and retain his eroding popularity amongst the people of his home segment.
In their joint statement, Congress leaders said that after shifting from Solan to Nahan constituency, Bindal made lofty promises to the electorates of the region during the assembly elections campaign; although he himself knew that it was not possible to fulfill these promises. The people of Sirmaur district had now come to realize that Bindal played with their sentiments and he never believed in working on the ground level. This is why the margin of BJP votes came down heavily in recent Lok Sabha elections as compared to last assembly elections which had led to his frustration.
They claimed the present government was ensuring equal and balanced development of the State. Unlike previous BJP Government, the present Congress Government did not believe in maintaining differences between the MLAs and developmental expectations of all areas were being fulfilled by rising above the political considerations.
They said that the entire Sirmaur district along-with Nahan constituency had always remained on developmental priority for the Congress Party. The previous Government ignored Nahan area but the present Government had given momentum for development of this area. They said all the schools closed by the BJP Government had been reopened besides upgrading various schools. The announcement of a medical college at Nahan was a big achievement. Rs. 76 crore drinking water supply scheme had been sanctioned for Nahan town and Rs. eight crore have been approved for augmentation of Naharswar drinking water scheme.
