The police has booked Transport Minister and Dharampur BJP MLA Mahender Thakur and his son Rajat Thakur under Sections 341, 353 and 34, IPC, in an FIR lodged at the Sarkaghat police station charging the father-son duo of obstructing a public servant from performing official duties on the night of November 3, a day before polling. The duo has reportedly termed the police action as a ploy to implicate them.
The police has lodged the FIR at the Sarkaghat police station against the accused on the complaint of police post in charge, Dharampur, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sushil Kumar.
According to the police, there was a clash among Congress and BJP workers at Tanhed on November 3 in which BJP workers suffered injuries. After that the BJP workers lodged a complaint that Congress workers were allegedly supplying liquor during night hours to woo voters, but the Congress claimed that it was BJP men under this minister who allegedly were distributing liquor to woo voters, but the move to implicate Congress men backfired on them.
The police team rushed to the spot, but it could not find anything except certain BJP men present on the scene. The police team, under ASI Sushil Kumar, was present at Tanhed village to verify the facts of a report lodged at the police post by BJP men.
He recorded the statement of Karam Chand, under Section 154, CrPC, and was bringing the injured persons to the Community Health Centre, Dharampur, for medical examination. But when the police team, along with four ITBP personnel, reached Behari, the team did not find any Congress worker present at the spot.
Mahender and his son Rajat along with their supporters zeroed in at the spot and the duo obstructed their way and allegedly grabbed Sushil Kumar by his uniform and deterred him from performing his duties. SP, Mandi, Abhishek Dular said the police had started investigations under Sections 353, 341 and 41, IPC, and no arrest had been made so far.
