SJVNL to Fund ₹72.82 Crore Development Works in Sunni Dam-Affected Areas

MoU covers Khaira-Ogli road widening and construction of a 152-metre bridge over the Sutlej River

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for undertaking infrastructure development works worth ₹72.82 crore in areas affected by the 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydroelectric Project.

The agreement was signed under the project’s Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) Plan in the presence of Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh. Superintending Engineer Deepak Raj Chauhan signed the MoU on behalf of the PWD, while SJVNL Executive Director Vikas Sharma represented the company.

The development initiative aims to strengthen infrastructure in project-affected areas and improve connectivity, particularly in the Shimla Rural Assembly constituency.

Under the agreement, the MDR-22 road from Khaira to Ogli will be upgraded and widened. The plan also includes the construction of a 152-metre-span bridge over the Sutlej River at Ogli-Parlog.

These works are expected to improve road connectivity, facilitate smoother traffic movement and provide safer and more convenient transportation facilities to local residents.

During the meeting, Vikramaditya Singh reviewed the progress of development works being undertaken by SJVNL and the concerned government departments. Issues related to the Jal Shakti Department’s Sunni Division and matters concerning the project authorities were also discussed.

The minister directed the concerned officers to ensure effective implementation of the proposed works, improve coordination among departments and resolve pending issues without unnecessary delays.

Vikramaditya Singh said the state government was committed to strengthening infrastructure and providing better facilities to residents. He emphasised that effective coordination between government departments and project authorities would be essential for completing development projects within the stipulated timeframe.
