To promote the ‘National Awareness Campaign on Energy Conservation’ as well as the painting talents of children in Himachal Pradesh, SJVN organised a state level painting competition at Shimla today. The competition is organised every year under the aegis of Ministry of Power, Govt. of India and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The topics for competition were:

a) Save Electricity to Energize more Homes.
b) Save Energy, Save Money.
c) When it is Bright, Switch off the Light.

The First Prize of this competition of Rs. 10,000 was bagged by Yungdrung Rapten of Central School of Tibetians, Oochghat, Solan while second and third prize of Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 5,000 were bagged by Ritvik Banchta of DAV Public School, New Shimla and Satyam Kumar Singh of Army Public School, Yol Cannt respectively.

In addition to this there were 10 consolation prizes of Rs. 1,000 each. The Block Education Officers who successfully organized this competition at their Blocks were also felicitated during the function. The first prize was bagged by Balbir Shastri of Dadahu, Sirmour, the second prize went to S.S. Chopra of Hamirpur while T.R. Sharma of Sunni bagged the third prize.

The First, Second & Third Prize winners will be participating in National Level finals to be held at New Delhi in the month of December, 2012.

In his welcome speech N.L. Sharma, Director (Personnel), SJVN Limited greets the participants and said that number of participants in the competition has been increasing gradually every year from 178 schools and 7,142 students in 2008 to 7,186 schools 1,41,498 students in 2012. He also told that due to this increase in number of participants SJVN is bagging the prize of Best Nodal Officer from last two years and hoped that the prize of Best Nodal Officer will be bagged by SJVN this year also.

Rajeev Sharma, Director, Elementary Education, Himachal Pradesh also spoke on the occasion and emphasised on the need of Energy Conservation and praised the efforts of SJVN in propagating the message of Energy Conservation to every corner of the State. He congratulated the participants and the winners of the Painting Competition. He also extended his heartiest wishes for Diwali and Children’s Day.

R.P. Singh, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN Limited presided over the function as chief guest in his speech he emphasised upon Energy Conservation Award Scheme introduced by Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India. He congratulated Principals, Block Education Officers, Director (Education) for exceptional participation of schools in Himachal Pradesh in this competition.
