The 20th State level Bal Vigyan Conference concluded at Chamba, Chief Secretary S. Roy presided over the concluding ceremony. While speaking on the occasion Chief Secretary S. Roy said that State Government was laying special emphasis on harnessing the solar and wind energy.

He said that solar cooker, water heating instruments, street lights, domestic lights etc. on subsidized rates were being provided to people residing in remote areas of the State under Solar Energy Harnessing Programme. He said that a 200 Kilowatt Solar Photo Voltic Power Plant had been set up in Baru Sahib of Sirmaur district in first phase and it had started production.

Chief Secretary said that Shimla and Hamirpur towns were being developed as Solar cities and 10 percent traditional energy would be saved in next five years under the Programme. He said that 3000 eco clubs had been set up in the State under National Green Corpus Programme and environment conservation pledge was also being administered in schools to make students aware of environment conservation. He said that complete ban had been imposed on use of plastic bags and desired results were being obtained. Shri Roy asked the budding scientists to participate in science based activities in a big way to acquaint themselves with scientific knowledge. He urged the people to use solar technique during construction in order to conserve energy and to use solar friendly instruments.

Chief Secretary distributed prizes to the winners of competitions which were organised during the conference. Dr. Nagin Nanda, Secretary and Director, State Science Technology and Environment Council welcomed the Chief Secretary and said that the motto of organising such events was to encourage students to study science subjects. Dr. Sunil Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
