In the Himachal Pradesh November 4 assembly election, the Election Commission (EC) is tying to use ever expending internet facility to help voters to find the nearest polling stations on internet.

EC claims to add Google Maps on its website and user needs to type address or place and it will automatically provide a list of nearby polling stations.

State electoral official said that information about the direction of that particular polling station would also be provided.

As many as 45.9 lakh voters will cast their ballots November 4 at 7,253 polling stations across the state. Polling information like election officials, number of voters and electoral rolls will also available online, he added.

Election officials said the hill state is to become the country’s first state to have this voter-friendly online facility. Earlier, the polling information was available only on manual maps.

However, EC’s announcement seems on papers only as its new facility is not working properly and even failed to give the proper results of simple queries. Hope it will work before November 4.
