The division bench comprising Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice D C Chaudhary has directed the State Transport Commissioner and Director General of Police (DGP) to take effective steps to check increasing road accidents in the state. The Court directed that the powers under the Motor Vehicle Act are delegated to the police well in time and required cooperation is extended to the Mobile Traffic Magistrate Court to function effectively.

On the mobile phone use, the Hon,ble Court made clear that in case the amendment to Rule 19 (8) of Himachal Pradesh Motor Vehicle Rule, 1990 regarding check on the use of mobile phones by drivers has not been promulgate it should be done within a month from today and should be implemented strongly. The Court also directed to take appropriate and effective steps to check the over speeding. The division bench has passed these orders on the petition of Sanjay Sood for issuing directions to the state government to take seriously the increasing accidents in the state.
