Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal stressed upon regular update through research and development in the field of medicine with a view to keep pace with the latest findings in the field globally. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of two-day long Medicine Update Shimla – 2012 organised by the Department of Medicine, IGMC, Shimla, in the college auditorium here today.

Chief Minister said that medical science was one of the most advanced one where exhaustive research was taking place the world over and latest remedies were being made available to the ailments which had remained incurable so far. He said that regular updating of the profession was the need of the hour to keep pace with the latest trends. He said that of all medical happened to be the most noble and holy profession due to its services to humanity. He said that the patients have immense faith in their professional caliber. He said that there was no short-cut for experience and hard work never goes unrewarded. He said that physicians who are proficient and devoted to their profession earn trust of the people resulting into their credibility and popularity which was incomparable to any other achievement.

Prof. Dhumal welcomed the participating delegates to the two-day conference to Himachal Pradesh and said that such conferences were need of the hour to keep professionals updated with the latest research and development in the discipline besides sharing knowledge with fellow professionals in the best interest of the humanity. He said that Himachal Pradesh had emerged a role model for its best health indicators in the country. He said that this had been possible due to the hard work and services rendered to the masses which had earned laurels to the State. He said that in the present era of information technology, excellence in the field was the need of the hour. He said that the State was poised to gain new heights on development front with the strengthening of health sector. He said that IGMC had pioneered health education in the State and produced best medical professionals who were earning laurels to the State in general and IGMC in particular by rendering specialized medical services in the prestigious medical institutions the world over. He hoped that the conference would usher into positive outcome through the deliberations by participating specialists in the field of medicine.

Chief Minister honoured Dr. D.S.Puri, Dr. N.S.Pal, Dr. Vijay Sehgal, Dr. Suman Rao, Dr. Surender Kashyap, Dr. Yogesh Chawla and Dr. Suresh Rana, for their meritorious service towards the humanity during their active service period. Dr. Ashok Sharma, Head of the Department of Medicine and Chairman of Organising Committee, welcomed the Chief Minister and said that regular updating was being ensured through such Conferences which were being organized for time to time. He said that it had been providing opportunity to the budding professionals to update their professional caliber. Dr. Rajiv Raina, Organising Secretary, proposed vote of thanks.
