Health Minister Dr. Rajiv Bindal declare that a decision has been taken to enhance the number of institutional delivery centres from existing 75 to 100 in the financial year 2011-12. Minister said it while presiding over the meeting of Chief Medical Officers and Block Medical Officers and officers of Health Department. Minister said that the noble Matri Sewa Yojna was launched on 15th August, 2010 by the Chief Minister Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal wherein it was decided to provide free institutional delivery to all expectant mothers in the State. The percentage of institutional deliveries increased from 50 to 69 percent in March, 2011 within a span of eight months, which was a greater achievement in the health sector, said he. He described the institutional delivery as the only mean to reduce the Infant Mortality and Mother Mortality rate in the State with a motive to ensure safety of newborn and mother.
