Arun Maira, a member of the Planning Commission of India, has been appointed Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Central University.

Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Central University Furqan Qamar welcomed the appointment of Maira as the Chancellor of the institution and said that the university would gain from his rich experience in the corporate sector and the Planning Commission.

In his present position, Arun Maira is a member of Planning Commission of India which is chaired by Prime Minister of India. In this ministerial level of position, his responsibility is to facilitate the shaping of policies and programs relating to industrialisation and urbanisation in the country, and tourism.

Prior to it, he had a rendered his services to many international companies. He was part of Tata Administrative Services for 25 years and worked at various important positions in Tata Group till 1989. He was board member of Tata Motors from 1981 to 1989. After this he worked with Arthur D. Little for 10 years where he was Leader of Global Organisation Practice and Managing Director of Innovation Associates, a subsidiary of Arthur D. Little. In 2000 Arun Maira returned to India and had held the position of chairman of Boston Consulting Group in India till April 2008.

After coming back to India in 2000 and prior to joining Planning Commission of India, Arun Maira has been on the boards of several companies, including Patni Computer Systems Limited, Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited, Tata Chemicals Ltd., Hero MotoCorp Limited, Godrej Industries Ltd. Apart from it he has also authored several books on leadership and organisation, including Remaking India – One Country, One Destiny,
Discordant Democrats, Shaping the Future and Transforming Capitalism – Business Leadership to Improve the World.
