The concluding ceremony of the year long 150th Anniversary Celebrations of the Institution of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India was held. Governor Himachal Pradesh, Urmila Singh presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Urmila Singh stressed upon maintaining transparency and accountability in the functioning of the departments and institutions to strengthen the democratic values. These were the pre-requisites for good governance, she added. She said that funds allocated for development should be properly utilised for the same and officers implementing the developmental schemes should ensure it, so that the benefits of the welfare programmes percolate down to the grassroots level and to the targeted beneficiaries.

Governor said that Comptroller and Auditor General of India had a challenging role to play in a growing economy like India and it should strive to promote accountability, transparency and good governance through high quality auditing and accounting to ensure that public funds were being used efficiently and for the intended purposes. The institution should act as a bridge between the Legislature, Executive, Government and the Public in an impartial manner, she added.

Governor said that the institution should continue its advisory role with complete objectivity for better financial management in order to meet the expectations of the people in future also. V. Kurien, Director General, National Academy of Audit and Accounts in his keynote address underlined the importance of auditing of public accounts and added that the institution had kept pace with the latest practices and methodology of audit with a positive mindset. J.Wilson, Accountant General, Audit welcomed the Governor and detailed about the activities of the department in the State. N. Goswami Accountant General Accounts and Entitlement presented vote of thanks. Officers of Centre and State Governments were present on the occasion.
