Dharmasala: Skipper Rishi Dhawan all-round performance helps Himachal Pradesh to register an innings and 221-run win against Assam in their Ranji Trophy – Group C match at Himachal Cricket Association Stadium, Dharmasala. Dhawan took ten wickets in the match, five each in both inning and contributed 58 runs in the team’s total of 463.
Himachal after amassing a mammoth 463 for nine in their first innings in response to Assam’s paltry 81 all out, Himachal bowled out the visiting side for 161 to record the huge win.
Earlier today Assam started the day with a deficit of 285 runs, but with only four second-innings wickets, there was no escape from an innings loss. Kunal Saikia and Dheeraj Jadhav (52) briefly resisted on the third morning, stretching their seventh-wicket stand to 47, the best stand in the match for Assam. But three strikes in quick succession by Dhawan ended the innings, giving the bowler his fifth five-wicket haul this season. He also scored a quick 58 in Himachal’s innings.
With their third win this season – Himachal have stretched their lead at the top of Group C table with 23 points. Rishi Dhawan has taken 39 wickets so far in this Ranji Trophy season and is a highest wicket taker.
